Shanah Walter

Teaches in: Woodinville

My name is Shanah (pronounced Shay-nuh) and besides my family, yoga is the thing which I am the most passionate about. I started practicing yoga in 1995 at the age of 15.

I grew up in East Wenatchee, so most of my practice early on was practicing with the good people on PBS or with various VHS cassettes that I got my hands on. I began practicing in group settings when I moved to Seattle in the late 90’s and this experience convinced me that if everyone practiced yoga with their communities....the world would be a happier and healthier place.

I completed CYTT in 2013 and have been teaching yoga since for a handful of studios and also have had some powerful experiences working one on one with clients as they heal from surgery, illness....or just want to launch a new yoga practice but don’t feel comfortable enough to start in a studio setting.

I also am passionate about Ayurveda, yoga’s sister science which focusses on the dietary and lifestyle components of a well balanced and dynamic life. I studied Ayurveda at Bastyr University and received a certification as an Ayurvedic Councilor in2020. A foundation of my teaching is the belief that yoga is for EVERY BODY...not matter age, health status, or knowledge of yoga.

The benefit of having a yoga practice which spans for decades is the wealth of knowledge I received from teaching and practicing through injures, illnesses, and pregnancies. I am here to help you meet your body on the mat today with whatever your body brings with it.

I also worked for a decade in the Washington wine industry, so combining a strong and creative yoga practice with some stunning Washington varietals is the loveliest blend I can think of. I am excited to share these two passions with new friends! Yoga, Ayurveda, spirituality, and physical and mental health are all things which I take very seriously, but thankfully I don’t take myself too seriously so I also encourage joy and laughter in class. I look forward to flowing with you soon!

Favorite Yoga Pose: Humanasa (Divine Monkey Pose) aka The Splits (who doesn’t love a divine monkey?)

What is something most people don’t know about you? I am a classically trained pianist. I took lessons for 10 years but quit playing as a teenager and even my husband and sons have never heard me play since.
